Construction is complete on the 700MW Desert Peak Energy Center storage facility in Palm Springs, CA, a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, in what the company is calling the world’s largest battery storage facility.

The 78-acre facility includes around 728 battery containers, with two externally-mounted air-conditioning units on each container, according to CA officials. Phase 1 of the project added 300 MW of storage capacity, and phase 2 added 400 MW. Additionally, the facility includes an on-site substation, inverters, and a supervisory control and data acquisition system.

A 230 kV overhead generation tie line was installed to carry the load from the project’s substation to the South California Edison Devers substation, extending about half a mile to the west of the facility.
